Payton Lorrainne Ackerson brought a bright, unforgettable energy into the lives of those around her. Known for her contagious smile, silly laugh, generous heart and warm bear hugs, she was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, friend and teammate. At just 16, Payton’s life was tragically cut short following an e-bike accident, and she died in the early morning hours of September 6, 2026, at Children’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, surrounded by her family and her boyfriend, Hudson, and his family.
Born April 26, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska, Payton was a sophomore at High Plains Community Schools in Polk. She made lasting impressions through her friendships and athletics, competing in softball, volleyball, basketball and track, where she participated in jumps and sprints. Her love for her teammates was among the qualities that defined her.
Away from school and sports, Payton enjoyed music, crafts, makeup, nails, movies and TikToks. She loved driving around with friends while listening to music and cherished time with her family, grandparents, sisters and cousins. She was especially excited about being an aunt to Raelynn Lou and adored her pets, including cats Willow and Nala and dogs Hazel and Gemma.
Payton’s kindness and selflessness touched many people. Her family said she was always willing to help others and cared deeply for those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Lonnie John “Papa.” She is survived by her parents, Chad and Erin Ackerson, sisters Emily and Rylee, niece Raelynn Lou, grandparents, extended family, friends and teammates.
Funeral services will be held September 12 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clarks, with visitation and a rosary the previous evening.
Though her life was far too short, Payton’s love, laughter and memories will remain deeply cherished by all who knew her.
