Millcreek, UT: Residents in a Millcreek, Utah, neighborhood faced a tense response Wednesday night after police said an armed man fired shots at officers responding to a domestic-violence call.
The incident began around 8 p.m. September 9 near Lambourne Avenue, where Unified Police officers were called after a person at a residence reported an argument involving a male relative who was armed with a rifle and that they feared for their safety. Police determined the man was reportedly suicidal and chose to back away while deploying drones to monitor the area.
Police later reported hearing gunfire and said the man fired shots in the direction of officers. He then fled on foot through the neighborhood while still carrying the rifle, prompting authorities to issue a reverse-911 alert telling residents within roughly three miles to shelter in place.
Officers eventually located the suspect and took him into custody without further incident. FOX 13 reported that no officers were injured, while KSL reported that no one was injured during the confrontation.
The incident prompted a significant law-enforcement response as officers worked to secure the neighborhood and ensure residents were safe. Authorities continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the domestic-violence call, the reported mental-health crisis and the gunfire.
The man’s identity and potential charges had not been released in the initial reports. Police also had not reported any injuries to residents or the suspect.
For now, the immediate threat has ended with the armed man in custody. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are expected to provide additional information as the case develops.
